Malibu (2016) by Anderson .Paak

Heart Don’t Stand A Chance - Co-writer, bass, guitar

This was a DJ Khalil session that started with me and the piano player/writer Sam Barsh. Sam and I were coming up with some ideas to a click track. Khalil had an electronic drumset set up and when Anderson arrived, he jumped on the drums and started playing to what we were doing. He was not as well-known at the time and I didn't know what to expect but I was playing bass and I couldn't believe how good it felt to play with him on drums. We filled out the song with the other sections and Anderson wrote the lyrics and melody to the music. I came back in and played a guitar solo on it later. When the album was released I listened to every song. We also did the song "Your Prime." The album was so good and I was so happy to be part of such a great piece of work and also to be alongside all the great bass playing on the album - Kelsey Gonzales, Pino Palladino, and Brian Cockerman.
